BIRTHDAY SUIT 19 F/W
Brief
Influenced by the renowned fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the brand underlines the intrinsic essence of apparel and the feel against the skin rather than the symbolism of power often attached to clothing. Studio Kyclops reimagined the notion of clothing power in our 19 F/W campaign for Birthday Suit, devising content to accentuate the brand's convictions and reinterpret the brand's origins as influenced by Andersen's tale.
Approach
Our objective was to maintain Birthday Suit's artistic intent, drawing inspiration from the aesthetic of 19th-century British laborers. We sought a model that deviated from the traditional, opting for a slightly smaller stature and distinct appearance marked by red hair and freckles. This choice facilitated the brand's pursuit of relaxed overfit attire. The photoshoot location was GreenPoint, Brooklyn, an authentic factory and warehouse district, chosen to evoke a sense of solitude and desolation.
Result & Impact
The resulting pictorial encapsulated the sentiment of 19th-century laborers' solitude, creating visually sophisticated and trend-forward content for Birthday Suit. The innovative and thoughtfully planned campaign successfully enhanced the brand image, staying true to its unique perspective on fashion and the power of clothing.
